Special Thanks 2008

Special Thanks for the 2008 Event.

What a year!!  Each year we think it’s going to be easier… but even after the 4th Festival it still seems a mammoth job to pull off a weekend like this. Over 240 people have been involved over the last few months to bring this event to fruition and below are a few words to try and thank those involved.

Over 67 sponsors, businesses and funding partners have put in time, money, product and their services in to making this event a success. Most are so much more than just sponsors; they are more like a big family of cycle enthusiasts …….keen to support one another, a good cause and to have a good time.

It’s been a tough year for a lot of businesses and sponsorship has been a real challenge to attract but involved with the Festival are companies large and small that have invested a huge amount of money and product and we could not have done this without the help of these folks. These are the companies that have taken that leap of faith into sponsorship in a difficult retail climate.  Please support those that supported us.

A special thanks to all the following:

Premier Sponsor:

Armstrong Peugeot
Rick Armstrong, Matt Barr, Simon Carter, and the whole team at Armstrong Peugeot, we couldn’t have done it without you.  Thanks also to Peugeot New Zealand and Simon Rose we absolutely couldn’t have done this without Peugeots help.

The support from these guys is phenomenal, we absolutely couldn’t have run this event without you Rick and the Armstrong Peugeot team.  I am once again going to struggle to give my Peugeot back……at just over $60 to fill and 3 times the fuel economy of my own car….. I may have to come in next week to talk to the sales team.

Major Sponsors:

Peak Fuel
Mark Inglis, Norm Wilson and the team from Peak Fuel. Mark has done all of the stunning radio adverts, (once again) sponsored the King and Queen of the Mountain, given away tons of Peak Fuel, and featured in the celebrity tandem event. What an amazing character, the only double amputee to stand on top of Everest setting a world first and here he is no questions asked back helping in the Festival of Cycling… great to have passionate people involved thanks Mark, Anne, Norm and Lorraine.

Christchurch City Council and of course the Mayor Bob Parker
The events team have done a stunning job in supporting us again and again.  4th year running and finally we get the Mayor in the Celebrity Tandem Event (and he won).  Brilliant work! This is such a great town to be riding a bike and such a great Council supporting us. Many thanks to the entire team Jo, Kevin, Karena and Bob on the Bike.

Raeward Fresh
Brent and Belinda Thomas, a stunning couple both heavily into cycling. Belinda as predicted last year did so well in the New Mothers category this year (she won it)… what timing!!  Brent recording a time of just over two hours has some unfinished business next year. Raeward Fresh this year has sponsored the Womans 35-44 category and a good portion of riders will have also received Raeward Fresh vouchers in their packs. They are also avid supporters of the Celebrity Tandem event and Cure Kids. Please support Brent and Belinda and Raeward Fresh. Thanks once again guys for your support.
